Physiotherapists are experts on understanding how the body moves. At Okotoks Physical Therapy, our therapists are passionate about athletics and have a solid understanding of the different demands that recreational and competitive sports place on the body. Our therapsis have extensive experience with sports-related injuries and have assisted athletes of all levels with injury prevention and recovery.
Neil Hergott has worked as the physiotherapist for the Calgary RoughnecksProfessional Lacrosse team for over a decade. He has also volunteered as the team physiotherapist with the Holy Trinity Academy Knights football team. Ashley Humphrey volunteered with the Medical Staff at the 2023 Alberta Summer Games hosted in Okotoks. Our therapists have provided injury prevention inservices for sports teams. Our physiotherapists will assess and diagnose sports-related injuries, ensure clients understand the injury, and guide the recovery process. Early stage physiotherapy treatments aim to reduce pain, promote healing, and improve range of movement. Later stage treatments aim to increase strength and endurance, reduce the risk of injury, and improve performance with sport specific activities. Treatments may include manual therapy, dry needling, acupuncture, massage, taping, and modalities (such as ultrasound and electrical muscle stimulation). Each client receives self management strategies and an individualized exercise program to facilitate return to their specific sport. Our therapists regularly review current research on sports-related injuries to ensure the education and exercises provided are evidence based.
